General Questions
What is Listasaurus.com?
Listasaurus.com is the first online classifieds site that pays you to list your
ads, with our Pay Per Listing Program. We provide online classifieds and a
business directory for every city and town nationwide. Listasaurus.com offers
an alternative to print classified ads, no-fee auctions and Business Directory listings at much lower and
affordable prices, with the ability to reach a wider audience than just local
folks.
Why does Listasaurus.com charge for some ads? Aren't there other classified sites that provide free listings?
Other classified sites do exist, and some
that offer "free" listings. But typically if any site is
offering "free" services to its members, it is raising money
through other means; such as selling banner ads, links, etc.
Listasaurus.com is not presently selling banner ads to
outside advertisers.
There are several reasons that Listasaurus.com charges a nominal fee for some classified ads:
-
To eliminate bogus ads, SPAM ads or any ads that do not offer a legitimate item
for sale.
-
We provide a service that we market nationwide in an effort to bring
advertisers buyers for their items.
- We donate a portion of our proceeds to charity, which we wouldn't be able to do
if we didn't charge fees for some of our ads.
How do I list an ad on Listasaurus.com?
First you sign up as a member -- and it's free to
register!
When you are logged in, you can click on "Place an Ad" link on your My
Account page or the link on the orange navigation bar. Follow
the instructions to make sure your listing is placed in the
proper category and subcategory and complete all the
applicable fields. We offer payment through Visa, Mastercard,
American Express and PayPal. Listasaurus.com is completely
self-service and you have complete control over the content
that appears in your listing. On your My Account page or from
the orange navigation bar you can manage your active and
expired ads, and easily edit, delete or resubmit your ads.
Do I need to be a member to browse ads?
No, you don't need to be a member to browse the listings on our site. However,
once you have a member account there are a few features that offer additional
browsing features such as:
-
My Favorites: Track your favorite listings in this folder.
- My Ad Filters: Screen classified ads or business directory ads for specific
terms as they enter the site -- you receive notification of ads fitting your
specified terms in your My Communications folder (available only to members).
- My Communications: You can use this area to easily communicate with other Listasaurus.com members.
How long will my ad remain on Listasaurus.com?
- All classified listings will remain on
Listasaurus.com for 30 days.
- Business Directory listings
are available for 30, 90 or 365 days.
- Auction listings are available for 1 day, 3 days, 5 days, 1 week or 2 weeks.
We encourage you to mark the
ads as sold once the sale has been completed. You can do this by logging into to Listasaurus.com with your username and password, then going to Active Ads at the top of the orange navigation bar. You will then see a list of your active ads, and a column to mark your item "Sold".
Can I include photos with my listing?
You may
include up to one photo with your FREE classified or auction listing. If you would
like to include more photos, you can choose to pay for
additional photos at .25 per photo. The Place an Ad form
will guide you on how to upload your photos.
JPG, GIF, BMP, PNG, and TIFF are
acceptable image types to include in your ad.
For best results, it's a good idea to compress your files as much as possible, to ensure easier uploading, better quality and
so your photos load quickly for users viewing your ad. For tips on how to work
with images,
click here. To download the free PhotoRazor software for compressing
images files quickly,

Can I include video with my listing?
Yes! Listasaurus.com not only allows the upload of images, but also one video per listing. The maximum file size for your video is 50 MB. The acceptable video formats are: WMV, MPG, MPEG, AVI, FLA, .SWF, MOV.
For best results, it's a good idea to compress your video as much as possible, to ensure easier uploading, better quality and for users viewing your ad. Click here for more information on listing your video classifieds.
Can I include links to other websites in my listing?
You may include one link to your personal website if it is specific to
your ad. There is a field in the "Place an Ad" process that
allows for the URL. The link will open the site page in a
window. Listasaurus.com will monitor links to ensure that this
feature is not abused. If we determine that the URL link you
have listed in your ad does not pertain to your ad, or
pertains to a business and is NOT a Business Directory
ad, we will remove it and notify you by email. The reason
we are monitoring URLs is so that we can ensure that
advertisers are using the site for legitimate purposes. Again
our goal is to keep Listasaurus.com free from SPAM ads.
Are there any types of listings which are not allowed?
The seller and the buyer are responsible for determining that the sale and purchase of any item is permitted under all applicable laws, rules and regulations. If you are not certain that the sale or purchase of an item is lawful, consult your attorney or an appropriate law enforcement agency. In addition, users are prohibited from listing or buying on the Site any of the items outlined in our Terms & Conditions. We have the right, but not the obligation, in our sole and absolute discretion, to terminate any listing or transaction involving any of the following items, or anything else that we deem, in our sole and absolute discretion, to be inappropriate.
Listings that involve any illegal activity or fraudulent or misleading
practices are prohibited. For complete details on this subject, please see
Listasaurus.com's Terms & Conditions. In
addition, duplicate listings for the same item are prohibited
in our Pay Per Listing categories.
Why did my listing get rejected/removed?
Listings are most commonly rejected due to either duplicate submission, or if
you are participating in our Pay Per Listing Program and you have not included
a photo or video to verify you have the item you are listing for sale. If your listing
is rejected or removed, you should receive an email outlining the reasons. If
you have a question about why your listing was rejected or what you can do to
remedy the situation, please feel free to email us at
support@listasaurus.com.
Pay Per Listing Program
How can I make money with the program?
Certain ad categories are eligible for cash rewards--we pay you for
listing with us! You can keep track of how much money you're making every step
of the way. Just log in, and go to "My Account", then "My Reward
Dashboard" to view which of your listings are eligible for the rewards program, which listings are pending and which ones you have already been
paid for. Click here for full details on our Pay Per Listing Program.
You can also
make money by referring other folks to Listasaurus.com through
our Refer a Friend program. Whenever someone you refer
registers and lists a Business Directory ad, you can receive a cash referral bonus. Contact us at support@listasaurus.com for more details.
Will I get paid for listing my auctions?
Listie says, “Yes!” Just like when you list a classified ad on Listasaurus.com, you get paid 25 cents per ad you list with an original picture of a tangible item. See our Pay Per Listing page for more details.
For how long can I list my auction?
When you list your item for auction, you have a choice of an ad duration of 1 day, 3 days, 5 days, 1 week or 2 weeks.
How do I get paid for my auction item?
Besides getting paid just to list your auction item, you will of course want to receive money for your item when you sell it. Which forms of payment you will accept are up to you. You can choose to accept cash only, credit cards, cashier’s check or PayPal. Listie recommends using PayPal, especially for long-distance buyers, because it is an easy, secure way to transfer payment.
What does Listasaurus.com do if someone does not pay for an auction item they have won?
Listasaurus.com is not involved in any transaction between any party who uses our site. We are a venue only. We cannot control whether or not users of Listasaurus.com will complete the transactions they describe on our site. If there is a dispute between participants on this site, Listasaurus.com is under no obligation to become involved.
What is feedback?
After an auction closes, the winning bidder and the seller will have an opportunity to leave feedback about each other regarding their auction experience. Registered users of Listasaurus.com then receive a rating based on positive, neutral or negative feedback that will help other users be more comfortable bidding on their items.
What's the difference between a "standard" and a "dutch" auction?
Every auction on this site will either be a "standard auction" or a "dutch auction". When the seller only has one item to list in the auction, it will be a "standard auction". Typically, when the seller has two or more identical items, it will be a "dutch auction". These two auction types are described below:
STANDARD AUCTION:
In a standard auction all bidders bid against each other, and the highest bidder at the end of the auction is the winner of the item, assuming the winning bid has surpassed the "reserve amount" as specified by the seller when the seller listed the auction. In a standard auction there is only ONE winning bidder.
DUTCH AUCTION:
In a dutch auction the seller is offering two or more of an identical item for auction. Unlike a standard auction, a dutch auction MAY HAVE MORE THAN ONE winning bidder.
Each bidder bids on either all or a desired number of the auction items, and indicates the price that he/she is willing to pay for each of item. At the end of the auction, all winning bidders will pay the same price for each of their items, which is the lowest qualifying (successful) bid. If there are more successful bids than items available, priority goes to the bidders who submitted their bids first.
In order to beat another bidder, a bid must simply have a higher total bid price per item than the other bids, regardless of the number of items that are being bid on.
Here is an example of how this might work:
The seller listed a dutch auction with 5 identical items.
> Bidder "A" placed a bid for 2 items at $20 each.
> Bidder "B" placed a bid for 4 items at $21 each.
The outcome of this auction would be:
> Bidder "B" wins 4 items at $20 each
> Bidder "A" wins 1 item at $20 each
The $20 price is because the lowest successful bid was $20. The total items were awarded based upon Bidder B's willingness to bid a higher dollar amount than Bidder A.
Since Bidder "A" was only awarded "1" item, and his original bid was for "2" items, he has the right to refuse the purchase of that partial order.
So, as a winning bidder, you have the right to refuse paying if you are only awarded a partial number of the items you were bidding on.
What is an Outbid Notification?
Any time there is a new high bid that exceeds your maximum bid amount, you and all other bidders will receive a notification via e-mail indicating that you have been outbid.
What is Winning Bidder Notification?
At the time an auction closes, the winning bidder will receive an email stating that he or she has won the item. Additionally, the seller should contact the winning bidder to request payment.
What if I change my mind after I’ve bid on an item, am I allowed to retract my bid?
No. Unfortunately, users are not allowed to retract bids. Every bid is considered a contractual commitment to purchase the item from the seller at the specified price.
What is the Reserve Price?
The reserve price is the lowest amount a seller is willing to accept for a final bid in order to sell an item. A bidder cannot win an item unless the reserve is met.
Can I edit an item I’ve listed for auction?
You may edit an auction's details only if it is still open and has not yet received any bids.
How do I bid on/buy an auction item?
You must be a Listasaurus.com registered user to purchase or place a bid on an item. Be sure to carefully examine the item image(s). Read the entire description. If you have questions about the product, contact the seller before bidding by clicking on the Contact link found in the seller information box on the item detail page of an auction. Then click on the “Place Bid” button to place your bid.
How do I keep track of the items I’ve bid on or that I’m watching?
A bidding/watching program provides views of which auctions you have bid on and those you are watching. You will find this information in the “My Account” section when you are logged in to the Listasaurus.com website under either "My Current Bids" or "Items I'm Watching."
Under "My Current Bids" you will be able to see what the current status is for auctions you are bidding on. The "Status" column will indicate whether you're winning your auction, were outbid, etc.
.
Why was my auction removed from the site?
Listasaurus.com will remove auctions from the site that violate our Prohibited Items Policy. Please see our Terms & Conditions for more details. Listasaurus.com staff may also remove auctions that violate site content standards.
What is Sniping?
For many auction bidders, it is a common disappointment. You submit the highest bid in the last few minutes of bidding, confident in the likelihood of winning. Then suddenly, with seconds to go, someone else swoops in with an even higher offer at the last minute. Before you have time to retaliate, the auction is closed. In auction jargon, you have become the victim of a "sniper."
Sniping is a method of online auction bidding where a bid is placed in the final seconds of an auction and the former high bidder is outbid, or "sniped." The auction closes and the sniper, in essence, steals the auction.
Who does the sniping?
Many developers have created sniping software for use on other auction websites. Additionally, individuals frequently snipe auctions manually by waiting to place their winning bid until the final seconds of the auction.
How does Listasaurus.com Auctions prevent sniping?
Listasaurus.com has instituted the concept of a "soft close" on all of its auctions. If there is a new high bidder within 1 minute of the scheduled auction closing time, the auction will be extended for an additional 5 minutes. The auction will continue indefinitely until 5 minutes have passed without a new high bidder. All bidders will receive an auction extension notification via email at the time of an extension.
Why is Listasaurus.com preventing sniping?
We are preventing sniping to make the online auction experience as stress-free and fair for everyone as we can. With Listasaurus.com you can bid with confidence, and you don't have to worry about auctions being swept out from under you.
What is Listasaurus.com’s jewelry policy?
Please refer to our Terms & Conditions for our Jewelry Policy.
Security and Scams
What does Listasaurus.com do about scams?
Listasaurus.com has attempted to make it extremely difficult for scammers to
list bogus or misleading ads. All ads that are in a paying category require
approval before they go live. If we see any ads that do not appear to be
legitimate, we will either not allow them to be listed, or will contact the
person placing the ad for verification.
Listasaurus.com will make every attempt to monitor URLs and encourages users to report any suspected scams to
support@listasaurus.com. Although we make every attempt at
preventing misuse, Listasaurus.com cannot, and does not, have any
responsibility for any fraudulent activity which occurs on Listasaurus.com or
which occurs as a result of listings on Listasaurus.com as outlined in our
Terms & Conditions.
In general, if you list something on Listasaurus.com, you should use caution
when dealing with any distant buyers, particularly those who want to pay for a
purchase using cashier's checks, money orders, escrow services and electronic
money transfers. The problem with transactions such as these is that many
on-line escrow services are fraudulent and many cashier's checks and similar
financial instruments are fake. One of the more common scams used by distant
buyers is to offer to pay with a cashier's check in excess of the amount of the
purchase. The scam involves not only having you send the item, but also the
excess of the check amount over the price for the item. Just because your bank
cashes a check does not mean the check is good. Banks will often cash bad
checks, but you will be responsible if the check subsequently bounces.
Buyers should also be wary of listings
which seem too good to be true or which require the payment of
funds to an out-of-town seller by means of electronic
transfers or on-line escrow services. In addition, you should
never provide personal financial information to any buyer or
seller that you become acquainted with on Listasaurus.com.
Other personal information, such as your social security
number also should not be provided (for example to a potential
employer) unless you are completely satisfied that the request
for such information is being legitimately made by a
legitimate company.
If you believe any listing on Listasaurus.com is fraudulent, you should report the listing by sending an email to
support@listasaurus.com and including the ad reference code. In
addition, if you believe you have been subject to any fraudulent activity, you
may want to consider contacting your local law enforcement agency or the
Internet Crime Complaint Center (ICCC), which was established by the FBI and
the National White Collar Crime Center. An on-line complaint can be filed with
the ICCC by going to http://www.ic3.gov/.
Helpful information on using the Internet and avoiding scams can also be found
on the Federal Trade Commission's website at
www.ftc.gov/bcp/menu-internet.htm.
How do I protect myself from fraud?
As a Listasaurus.com user, you need to be aware of potentially fraudulent site activity. The following Red Flags will help protect you from fraud:
- There are no payment instructions on the item.
- Seller only accepts wire transfers, money orders or cash transactions (e.g., Western Union).
- Seller requests that the money be sent outside the United States.
- Seller doesn't offer PayPal as a payment option. (Many fraudulent sellers have been banned from PayPal.)
- Seller requires the buyer to call or e-mail them before or after bidding on an item in an auction.
- Seller suggests through external contact that the buyer completes a transaction outside the confines of an auction.
- Seller has no contact information. (For auctions, contact information is only provided after winning an auction.)
- Seller is not located in the U.S.
- If an auction or listing looks too good to be true, it probably is.
- Be wary of distant "buyers" responding to your ad! Many scammers send e-mails hoping to defraud sellers through schemes involving counterfeit cashier's checks and/or wire transfers. It's a good idea to deal locally, and accept cash for your items when possible.
- Always contact the seller before bidding or before paying for an item. If anything seems suspicious, do not complete the transaction.
- If a person contacts you via e-mail and offers to sell you an identical or similar item for a similar or lower amount, do not complete the transaction and report the user to Listasaurus.com.
If you find two or more of these flags on an auction you are watching, we recommend that you do not bid on the auction
What are "Spoof" and "Phishing" e-mails?
Some users have reported receiving "spoof" or "phishing" e-mails that appear to come from PayPal, and which request sensitive information which may be used for fraudulent activity. Users should take care to avoid responding to these e-mails to avoid compromising their information.
Some signs to watch for:
- Listasaurus.com will never ask you to provide sign-in passwords, credit card numbers or other sensitive information through e-mail. If we request information from you, we will always direct you back to the Listasaurus.com site. With very few exceptions, you can submit the requested information through your "My Account" page.
- Listasaurus.com will not send you e-mail that includes attachments.
- Spoofers may not have the same quality checks as legitimate sites.
- If an e-mail refers to a category that does not appear on the Listasaurus.com site, it is probably fraudulent.
>li>Some spoof e-mails may direct you to a website that looks similar to Listasaurus.com, but is not. Whenever you sign into Listasaurus.com, you should be on a page that begins with http://www.listasaurus.com/ads/index.php?
To report an e-mail that you suspect was a spoof of a Listasaurus.com e-mail, please send us the e-mail with the complete message text and full header or forward the entire message to support@listasaurus.com using the forward function of your e-mail program. When forwarding the message, do not change the subject line or forward the message as an attachment. Forwarding the message in this way will allow us to review the message headers and any other information that may be attached to the e-mail.
How secure is my credit card information?
We are using Linkpoint for Secure credit
card processing through online. This means that your credit
card information is sent directly to the credit card processor
in a very secure manner, so that nobody else can see it. That
protects you by ensuring that nobody but you and the credit
card processor will see your card information. Listasaurus.com also does not keep records of your credit card
information; it is handled solely by our external merchant
service processor.
Does Listasaurus.com share its customer database with third party companies?
No. None of the information entered when you sign up as a member is shared!
How do I find my lost password?
Simply enter your login id and then click on the "Forgot Password?"
link and enter in the email addresses used when you created your member
account. Your password will then be emailed to you through that email
address.
Do I need to log out?
Although not necessary, it is advisable to log out after each session.
